How to take sartorial measurements for a man’s suit

To order a tailored shirt or suit that fits you perfectly, it is essential to create your custom fit by precisely defining your body measurements. In this guide, we’ll explain how to take your measurements quickly and easily, with no mistakes.
Measure the circumference of the chest by placing the tape measure under the armpits and above the nipples, making sure it is aligned horizontally.
Place the tape measure around the neck, just below the adam’s apple, without squeezing. Keep the neck relaxed, avoiding stretching it or lowering the chin.
Measure the width of the shoulders from the outermost point of the left shoulder (where the sleeve seam is generally applied) to the outermost point of the right shoulder. The tape measure should not be taut, but should follow the natural curvature of the back, passing over the most prominent bone below the neck.
Relax your arms and take the measurement in two steps: start at the outermost point of the shoulder (where the sleeve seam is generally applied) and measure up to the elbow. Fix the tape measure in this position, then continue by measuring up to the wrist bone, following the side profile of the arm.
Relax your arms and let them extend along your sides. Then measure the circumference of both biceps at the widest point and enter only the larger value between the two.
Tilt the head slightly forward. Place the tape measure on the most prominent bone at the back of the neck and measure to the back height of the crotch (about 1 cm below the butt). Note: If you prefer, you can take this measurement from a jacket that fits you well by measuring the center back seam, excluding the collar.
Relax and do not hold your breath (or your abdomen!). Measure the circumference of your stomach at navel height, making sure the tape measure is aligned horizontally.
Measure the circumference of the waist, about four fingers below the navel, without holding your breath. Make sure the tape measure is aligned horizontally and that the pants do not interfere with the measurement.
Measure the circumference of the pelvis at the widest point, usually midway up the buttocks, keeping the tape measure well aligned horizontally.
Remove your shoes and spread your legs slightly apart. Measure from the upper middle of the thigh (at crotch height) to the ground, following the natural line of the inside leg, keeping the tape measure close to the body.
Measure the circumference of both thighs, just below the crotch, and enter the larger of the two values. Make sure the tape measure is aligned horizontally.
